Adobe Illustrator files:

Index Manager and Color Factory supports content extraction for indexing and preview generation of Adobe Illustrator documents, provided support software is available on the server.

Files from different versions are handled differently due to variations of the Adobe Illustrator file formats:

  • Documents from version 8 and higher will be natively handled by FotoWare (requires enabling of the 'Create PDF Compatible File' option when saving the document). In this case, no additonal support software is required.
  • Documents from version 8 and higher that have been saved without the 'Create PDF Compatible File' can be handled if Adobe InDesign Server is available (support for this will be introduced in Service Release 2, release date will be announced later).
  • Documents from version 7 and lower will require Adobe Distiller Server or PSStill on the server.
EPS Vector support

In order to support indexing of document content and generation of high-quality thumbnails and previews of EPS vector graphics, two options are available:

  • Adobe Distiller Server is used by Index Manager and Color Factory in the process to convert EPS files to PDF, which are then natively indexed by our applications. Adobe Distiller Server must be installed on each server where Color Factory and Index Manager work with EPS files. More information, license terms and prices can be obtained from Adobe Systems.
  • PStill will be used by Index Manager or Color Factory if Adobe Distiller is not found on the server. PStill can be licensed for server use, provided that a license is purchased for each user of the system. More information, license terms and prices can be obtained from PStill's web site.

Customers that need support for EPS vector graphics must purchase a license for one of the above mentioned applications and install them on the FotoWare server(s) that process these files.

InDesign support notes

In the current FotoWare version it is possible to use Adobe InDesign Server to index InDesign files. The license for Adobe InDesign server must be purchased separately.

Note 1: RAW format support

RAW format support uses the Adobe DNG Converter. FotoStation, Index Manager and Color Factory all make use of the DNG converter to to extract metadata and render thumbnails and previews of RAW files.

Note 2: Video and audio formats

FotoWeb supports transcoding of most video formats and several audio formats when licensed with the optional audio and video module. The audio and video module renders a proxy video file in MPEG .h264 format that can play back on all devices.

FotoStation gets thumbnail and poster frame extraction from the Index Manager server, which uses three different frameworks for extraction: DirectShow (Windows Media), QuickTime and Adobe Flash. You may also need to install additional codecs to correctly extract the information from video files in your system.
Learn more about how Index Manager handles video.

The following URL lists all formats natively supported in QuickTime: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/exten...omponents.html

QuickTime and DirectShow are plug-in architectures, which means that you can install additional 3rd party codecs to allow playback and generation of thumbnails and previews.
MPEG-2 playback requires an extra QuickTime plug-in that can be purchased from Apple.
