User guide: Dropping assets from FotoWeb to a third-party system

How to drop assets from FotoWeb or FotoWeb Pro into a third-party system.

Supported user types

This functionality is available in both the Standard and Pro FotoWeb interfaces.

Authenticated FotoWeb users require a Plus or Pro user license in FotoWeb, and they need Place permission in the archive from which they are dropping assets.

Bear in mind that the following instructions are generic - users need to understand how FotoWeb and the target applications work, such as where to drop the assets.

We recommend using the instructions below as a template for creating a guide for your users so they understand how the integration works in their environment.

Dropping assets from FotoWeb

Access FotoWeb through a web browser and log in with a user with a Plus or Pro license.

Navigate to the thumbnail grid of an archive in which the user has at least View and Place permissions.

To drag a single asset, simply drag the thumbnail from the grid with the left mouse button. No modifier keys are required.

To drag a selection of assets, first select them and then drag the small blue "Drag" icon to the left of the Action bar using the left mouse button. No modifier keys are required.

Dropping assets from FotoWeb Pro

Access FotoWeb through a web browser and log in with a user with a Plus or Pro license.

In the Pro interface, select an archive where the user has at least View and Place permissions.

To drag one or more assets, select them and then hold down Ctrl-Shift (Windows) or Command-Shift (Mac). The assets are highlighted with a blue frame if dragging is possble.

Drag the assets to the desktop application using the left mouse button.

Note:  It may seem to be possible for users without Place permissions in an archive to drag a thumbnail from FotoWeb into a desktop application, but it will only work for users with the proper license and Place permission on the archive.
