Quickly stamping several files with a macro or a template

Overview

The quickest way to apply a template or macro to a selection of files is by using the Stamp tool.

Using the stamp tool

Having created some macros or templates, you can easily apply them to a selection of files using the Stamp function on the toolbar:

  1. Select the files you want to update
  2. Select the Stamp icon on the toolbar and choose which template or macro to apply.
  3. The metadata is applied to the selected files.
Note: Templates will overwrite the existing content in the fields to which they add metadata. If you do not want to risk overwriting existing information, you can use conditional macros instead. However, the Stamp function is very useful for quickly applying metadata to files that have no descriptive metadata in the first place. For example, you can use it to add basic information to files you've just imported from a memory card.

Stamping assets with an XMP file

If you have an XMP file containing metadata and want to apply that to a selection, click on the Stamp tool and choose Stamp with XMP file. Then locate and select the XMP file you want to apply using the file system dialog and select OK to apply it.
