FotoStation activation fails after restoring a Time Machine backup

Applies to:FotoStation version 7.0 (version 8.0 is not affected)

Symptom

After restoring your Mac from a Time Machine backup, FotoStation fails to activate.

Cause

Using Time Machine can potentially break licensing for a FotoWare product. The problem is that Time Machine has backed up and restored a licensing data file that is not correct.

Resolution

  1. In Finder, press Shift-Cmd-G to go to a folder. Go to the folder /Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher/FLEXnet and delete all files starting with fotoware. Do NOT delete ANY other files in this folder, if any.

  2. Reset permissions on the /Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher folder to allow your user to read and write. Apply these permissions recursively.

  3. Reset permissions on the /Library/Application Support/FLEXnet Publisher folder to allow your user to read and write. Apply these permissions recursively.

Now try to activate FotoStation again. If this still fails, contact FotoWare Support.
