Overview
The Cars archive on the Showcase site is an introduction to how taxonomies work. Go to the archive and use the taxonomies in the side panel to filter cars by make and model, body style, color etc.
Metadata Fields Used in the Configuration
For this configuration, we have re-labelled Custom Fields 1-6 to describe different aspects of the cars in the collection.
Field number | Usage / Label |
---|---|
#200 | Body Style |
#201 | Engine |
#202 | Make (And model) |
#203 | Model Year |
#204 | Number of doors |
#205 | Paint color |
Taxonomy navigation enabled for metadata fields
As you can see from the archive settings below, taxonomy navigation has been enabled for the metadata fields on the archive
Content added to taxonomy
Each taxonomy has to be manually populated with terms matching the metadata that exists in the files:
As shown below, the Sedan entry in the Body taxonomy has a search value of "Sedan".
The Make & Model taxonomy is a little special in the sense that it has car manufacturers on the top level and a sub level with the models, for example like this:

A1
A2
A3 etc
BMW
1-series
2-series
3-series etc.
When clicking on the top node (Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz), Fotoware actually uses a custom search for the manufacturer's name in the Keywords field:
However, clicking on the child nodes (model names) executes a search for the model name in the field associated with the taxonomy, namely the Make & Model field (#202):
