Adding metadata using templates
Table of Contents
Overview
Explains the use of templates to add metadata to a selection of files.
When are templates useful?
If you frequently add the same metadata to files, consider using a template to automate this process. Templates are a great way to predefine content that can be quickly applied to a single file or multiple files.
Note
Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, you may find that using macros provides greater control when applying metadata to a whole selection of files.
Applying a metadata template
- Select the file to which you want to insert the metadata.
- Open the metadata editor.
- Open the Templates menu and select the template you would like to use.
- The metadata from the template is inserted into the text fields. Empty fields in the template will not alter the corresponding text fields in the file, while template fields containing metadata will replace any metadata in the file’s corresponding text fields.
- When you are done, select OK to add the inserted template’s metadata to the selected file. If you decide that you don’t want to change the text after all, select Cancel.
Note
You can quickly apply a template to a whole selection of files using the Stamp tool. And it's also possible to apply a template when processing files with an Action.
