3D models in Fotoware Alto
Fotoware Alto includes a built-in viewer for 3D models in GLB format. Support for 3D assets is currently limited and will expand in future releases.
Viewing a 3D model
Open a GLB file in Fotoware Alto to view it interactively. You can:
- Rotate, pan, and zoom the model
- Inspect the model from any angle
- Play back animations stored in the file
- Switch to a wireframe view

Uploading other 3D formats
You can upload and store 3D files in Fotoware Alto, just like any other file type. Your files are stored safely and can be downloaded at any time.
Formats other than GLB cannot be previewed in Fotoare Alto yet. Because 3D assets do not currently go through a rendering pipeline, the following are not available for them:
- Thumbnails
- Previews generated during upload
- Image transformations and derivatives
- Search and browse views that rely on thumbnails or generated previews
Why GLB first?
A GLB file is self-contained: one file holds the geometry, materials, and textures needed to display the model. Many other 3D formats distribute these components across multiple linked files, which requires extra handling during upload, storage, and rendering. Starting with GLB files lets us deliver working 3D previews sooner.
What is coming?
We plan to extend 3D support to more industry-standard formats, including multi-file asset packages, and to add thumbnails, previews, transformations, and richer browsing for 3D content. GLB viewing is the first step towards broader 3D file support in Fotoware Alto.
