Overview

You can automatically translate metadata (such as titles, descriptions, and keywords) in Flow workflows.

Instead of manually copying and translating values between fields, Flow translates metadata during workflow processing, reducing manual effort and minimizing errors when working with multilingual content.

How the Translation node works

When a Translation node is configured as part of a workflow, it:

  • Reads the source field value
  • Translates the content from the configured source language to the configured target language
  • Writes the translated text to the target field

Translations are applied automatically as part of the workflow execution.

Configuring the Translation node

To set up metadata translation:

  1. Open your workflow and select the Translation node.
  2. Select Add translation. You can add multiple translation mappings within the same Translation node.
  3. Add a translation mapping by selecting values from the dropdown lists for Source field, Source language, Target field, and Target language.

  4. Select Save.
  5. Translations are executed automatically during workflow processing after workflow conditions are evaluated and direct metadata edits are applied. This ensures that the most up-to-date values are used for translation.

Translation mappings

Each translation mapping defines:

  • Source field – the field containing the original content
  • Source language - the original language
  • Target field – the field where the translated content is written
  • Target language – the language to translate into

Any metadata field available in the Edit metadata macros action can be used for translation.

Translation history (audit log)

Each translation is recorded in the System log as part of the Translations action for the workflow.

The log includes:

  • Source and target fields
  • Original and translated text
  • Language used
  • Timestamp

Best practices for metadata translation

  • Use consistent source fields - Translate from a single master language (for example, English) to ensure predictable results.
  • Avoid overwriting manually edited fields - If translated fields are edited manually, future workflow runs may overwrite those changes when the source content is updated.

Supported languages

Flow uses Microsoft’s translation service, which supports a wide range of languages. When configuring a translation, you can select the target language from the dropdown list in the Translation node.
