Upgrading Upgrade process Feature Release 20 New and updated functionality Fixed issues Known issues

Note - This is a beta release of FR 20, and these release notes are subject to change.

This article lists the functionality for Fotoware 9.0, Feature Release 20.

This release will be made available in several increments. Each new build will address known issues identified in the previous version to ensure continuous improvements and stability. For a smoother experience, you might consider waiting for a later build in this release cycle.

Updates are available to all customers covered by an Agreement.

Upgrading

Fotoware tests upgrading from the previous two On-Premises releases to the current release, and we offer support for both the current and last major On-Premises releases.

Upgrade process

If you are upgrading from a release before FR19, you need to upgrade version by version. For example, if you are upgrading to FR 20 from FR 18, you must first upgrade to FR 19 and then to FR 20; you cannot upgrade directly from FR 18 to FR 20. For more information, see Upgrading from Feature Release 19 to Feature Release 20.

New and updated functionality

  • Activity Exports is the new tool for logging user activity. For more information, see Activity Exports.
  • MongoDB is installed separately and is no longer included in the FotoWeb installer. For more information, see Upgrading from Feature Release 19 to Feature Release 20.
  • You can now scroll, collapse, and resize the navigation pane in both the Main and Pro interface.
  • You can now edit search terms in the Pro interface as you already could in the Main interface. This allows you to make quick adjustments to search terms directly in the search box.
  • You can configure and enable the cookie warning bar and cookie policy to inform users about necessary cookies.
  • The Upload dialog did not display thumbnail previews for files over 10 MB. Now, it displays thumbnail previews for files up to 200 MB.
  • User lockout: This is a built-in security improvement for customers who use a username and password to log in to Fotoware. After 10 failed login attempts (incorrect username or password), users are temporarily locked out for one hour. This restriction does not apply to users using SSO.
  • New placeholder icons are available for all assets without a preview in the thumbnail or asset detail view. Additionally, the icons for video and audio transcoding have been modernized.
  • If a time zone indicator is specified in metadata fields related to date and time, those fields will display a time zone indicator. The data input remains the same; however, the original date of an asset will be clear with this extra information. If no time zone designator (UTC -05:00, for example) is specified in the metadata, then Fotoware does not assume the time zone.
  • In the Archives list in Site Configuration, we added a Metadata Views column so users can easily see which metadata view is in use for each archive.
  • In the Archives detail view in Site Configuration, it's now easier to identify which metadata field number is connected to the list of taxonomy filters as the metadata field number is displayed in front of the taxonomy filters.
  • As mentioned previously, virus scanning functionality was set to End of Life in July 2021 and has now been removed.
  • In the Main and Pro interfaces, the same UI information is displayed when attempting to delete an asset. In addition, the message now always includes the number of assets to be deleted.
  • Consent Management - when filling in a consent form, you can now decline consent at any stage of the process. In addition, administrators can now define which fields should be visible or even required when declining a consent form.
  • Apache, as well as Kodak, Nikon, and Canon DLLs and dcraw, have been removed from the FotoWeb installer.

Fixed issues

  • Delays and errors when changing and resetting passwords have now been resolved.
  • Previously, some content was outside the table scope in the Manage webhook view. This is now fixed, and all table content is displayed.
  • In Site Configuration, you could not save a change to the character case of a user or group name. This is now fixed, and you can, for example, change the username admin to Admin.
  • Previously, the ingestion macro was not applied when you copied and moved an asset to a destination folder where an asset with the same filename was located. This is now fixed.
  • When uploading a TIFF file, a placeholder icon poster will be displayed as a preview.
  • Main interface: An asset's thumbnail metadata tooltip sometimes overlapped with the asset below. This is now fixed, and the thumbnail view is only displayed when you hover over the asset to which the metadata belongs.
  • Previously, all metadata was lost when uploading a very large TIFF file (more than 2 GB). This is now fixed, and all metadata fields that are not editable in the archive's metadata view are preserved as long as the Preserve existing metadata for fields left empty during upload option is selected in the metadata view.
  • Previously, if the metadata field value was long, the content extended outside the field and onto the image on the preview page.
  • In the Selection Widget, when you searched in the Taxonomy filters panel, the Taxonomy filters panel disappeared, and no search results were displayed.
  • Add metadata criteria in Extended search did not work for read-only built-in fields.
  • Collapsed folders and filters were expanded after you searched for a taxonomy filter.
  • If you made changes to a SmartFolder and then renamed the SmartFolder, the changes you made disappeared.
  • In the Pro interface, an asset was displayed with a small preview after you changed the Rating and Status filters.
  • There were minor layout issues with some dialogs when using FotoWeb in Finnish.
  • For documents with more than 25 pages, pages after page 25 were not displayed.
  • The action tooltip displayed only the action name, not the description. This is now fixed, and the action tooltip displays both the action name and description.
  • In the Pro interface, the information panel was not updated when navigating to a new asset; it continued to display data from the first asset. This is now fixed, and the correct data for each asset is displayed in the information panel.
  • The webhook notification JSON data contained a href that had been double URL encoded and also included a redundant port number ":443". This is now fixed, and the webhook notification JSON data contains a href with the correct URL encoding and does not have a port number.
  • In some cases, the API response for albums contained assets where the album name part was missing in the hrefs fields.
  • The tooltip was not displayed for Set Status or Set Rating actions.
  • When previewing an image, the x icon to close the search bar was unavailable when searching in bag fields.
  • Users without the Manage taxonomies permission could see the option to add taxonomies.
  • When using keyboard navigation, the tab order was incorrect on the Forgot Password page.
  • You can now use keyboard navigation to do the following: log in to Fotoware, access the Tools menu, use the Up function (on an asset detail page, for example), and access the tabs on the asset details page.
  • Error handling for the login page is now announced to the screen reader.
  • The Selection Widget sometimes cut off the bottom of the preview image instead of displaying the full image scaled to fit the dialog. This resulted in the bottom part of the image also being cut in the published image. This is now fixed to display the whole image in preview and published views.

Known issues

The following issues will be fixed as part of the main Feature Release 20 release:

  • Unnecessary, empty MongoDB folders are created in ProgramData\Fotoware during the installation/upgrade to Feature Release 20.
  • When running fwsetup after installing FotoWeb from scratch, you are given the option to add an additional site. This is unnecessary for a clean installation, as no FotoWeb sites were created earlier.
  • When installing the Beta installer, you need to reboot your machine to apply the license.
  • When uninstalling FotoWeb, the User Account Control dialog shows a **** .msi name instead of the product name FotoWeb.
  • Version Control: When you try to upload a new version of an asset using the same name as the original, an error occurs and the upload fails. To upload the new version successfully, you must give it a different name from the original asset.
  • Using keyboard modifiers (Shift, Ctrl, or Ctrl+Shift) to select multiple folders does not return the expected asset results.
