Note - This is a beta release of FR 20, and these release notes are subject to change.
This article lists the functionality for Fotoware 9.0, Feature Release 20.
This release will be made available in several increments. Each new build will address known issues identified in the previous version to ensure continuous improvements and stability. For a smoother experience, you might consider waiting for a later build in this release cycle.
Updates are available to all customers covered by an Agreement.
Upgrading
Fotoware tests upgrading from the previous two On-Premises releases to the current release, and we offer support for both the current and last major On-Premises releases.
Upgrade process
If you are upgrading from a release before FR19, you need to upgrade version by version. For example, if you are upgrading to FR 20 from FR 18, you must first upgrade to FR 19 and then to FR 20; you cannot upgrade directly from FR 18 to FR 20. For more information, see Upgrading from Feature Release 19 to Feature Release 20.

New and updated functionality
- Activity Exports is the new tool for logging user activity. For more information, see Activity Exports.
- MongoDB is installed separately and is no longer included in the FotoWeb installer. For more information, see Upgrading from Feature Release 19 to Feature Release 20.
- You can now scroll, collapse, and resize the navigation pane in both the Main and Pro interface.
- You can now edit search terms in the Pro interface as you already could in the Main interface. This allows you to make quick adjustments to search terms directly in the search box.
- You can configure and enable the cookie warning bar and cookie policy to inform users about necessary cookies.
- The Upload dialog did not display thumbnail previews for files over 10 MB. Now, it displays thumbnail previews for files up to 200 MB.
- User lockout: This is a built-in security improvement for customers who use a username and password to log in to Fotoware. After 10 failed login attempts (incorrect username or password), users are temporarily locked out for one hour. This restriction does not apply to users using SSO.
- New placeholder icons are available for all assets without a preview in the thumbnail or asset detail view. Additionally, the icons for video and audio transcoding have been modernized.
- If a time zone indicator is specified in metadata fields related to date and time, those fields will display a time zone indicator. The data input remains the same; however, the original date of an asset will be clear with this extra information. If no time zone designator (UTC -05:00, for example) is specified in the metadata, then Fotoware does not assume the time zone.
- In the Archives list in Site Configuration, we added a Metadata Views column so users can easily see which metadata view is in use for each archive.
- In the Archives detail view in Site Configuration, it's now easier to identify which metadata field number is connected to the list of taxonomy filters as the metadata field number is displayed in front of the taxonomy filters.
- As mentioned previously, virus scanning functionality was set to End of Life in July 2021 and has now been removed.
- In the Main and Pro interfaces, the same UI information is displayed when attempting to delete an asset. In addition, the message now always includes the number of assets to be deleted.
- Consent Management - when filling in a consent form, you can now decline consent at any stage of the process. In addition, administrators can now define which fields should be visible or even required when declining a consent form.
- Apache, as well as Kodak, Nikon, and Canon DLLs and dcraw, have been removed from the FotoWeb installer.
Fixed issues
Known issues
- Unnecessary, empty MongoDB folders are created in ProgramData\Fotoware during the installation/upgrade to Feature Release 20.
- When running fwsetup after installing FotoWeb from scratch, you are given the option to add an additional site. This is unnecessary for a clean installation, as no FotoWeb sites were created earlier.
- When installing the Beta installer, you need to reboot your machine to apply the license.
- When uninstalling FotoWeb, the User Account Control dialog shows a **** .msi name instead of the product name FotoWeb.
- Version Control: When you try to upload a new version of an asset using the same name as the original, an error occurs and the upload fails. To upload the new version successfully, you must give it a different name from the original asset.
- Using keyboard modifiers (Shift, Ctrl, or Ctrl+Shift) to select multiple folders does not return the expected asset results.
