Changing taxonomy item properties Note What's next?

You can edit the properties of individual taxonomy items to control how they are displayed and how users can navigate, search, and set metadata using the taxonomy.

Changing taxonomy item properties

  1. Navigate to the item you want to edit and select the Edit taxonomy item (pencil) icon.

  2. Enter new values in the following fields, as required:
  • Label - The name displayed for the taxonomy item.
  • Value - The value associated with the taxonomy item.
  • Description -Optional field. Enter a brief description to explain the term's use.
  • Custom Search - Defines a custom query that is executed when a user selects the taxonomy item. Query must also be enabled for the taxonomy item. For more information, see Query. You can also learn how to create custom queries for taxonomy nodes.
  1. Under Usage (access list), configure how the taxonomy item can be used:
  • Navigate - Makes the taxonomy item available for taxonomy navigation. This must be enabled to make the node visible for users in the taxonomy, otherwise it will not be shown.
    • You can enable only Navigate on a node (not Query or Set). This allows users to expand the item and navigate to items at deeper levels without using the item itself to run a query or set metadata. This allows the execution of a query to apply filtering in the archive.
    • You can turn off the Navigate toggle if the node in question should only be used to set metadata in an editor. Consequently, the taxonomy can contain a combination of navigation items and items used solely to tag assets using the metadata editor.
  • Query -  Allows users to run a query by selecting the taxonomy item. By default, Fotoware searches for the taxonomy item's label in the metadata field for which the taxonomy is enabled. For example, if a taxonomy is connected to Field 15, Category, enabling the Query property will allow users to search for the exact string entered in the Label field within Field 15.

You can override the default query by specifying a custom search. For example, to display the label Sports but search for SPO in field 15:

  1. Enter Sports in Label.
  2. Enable Query.
  3. Enter 15:SPO in Custom Search.

The custom search is then limited to field 15.

Note

If you enter only SPO in Custom Search without specifying a field, the custom query is run across all fields in the field definition.

  • Set - Allows users to select the taxonomy item's label as a metadata value, for example from a quicklist associated with the metadata field. This makes predefined taxonomy values available when users edit metadata or select metadata values in actions.
You can enable Set without enabling Navigate or Query. The item is then available for setting metadata, but is not used for archive navigation.
  1. Select OK to save your changes.

What's next?
