FTP server information

Sharing details Security considerations

The Flow FTP server provides both FTPS and SFTP protocols for secure file transfers.

To access the FTP configuration, go to Settings > FTP Server.

The Hostname of your FTP server is auto-generated by Flow.

The SFTP Port is used for the SFTP protocol, and the FTPS Port is used for the FTPS protocol. You can't customize these ports since Flow hosts the FTP server and manages the configurations to ensure optimal security and performance.

Sharing details

Rather than selecting a protocol per user, you share the specific port with the user based on the protocol you want them to use; if you share the FTPS port, the user will connect using FTPS, and if you share the SFTP port, they will connect using SFTP.

To allow a user to connect to the FTP server, you need to provide them with the following information:

  • Hostname: The server's hostname.
  • Port: The port number for the protocol (FTPS or SFTP) they should use.
  • Username: The user's unique username.
  • Password: The user's password.

Security considerations

Security is paramount when using FTP services. Here are some best practices:

  • Credential management: Ensure that you share usernames and passwords securely. Flow generates strong passwords and stores them safely, but it's important that you copy the password when creating a user and send it to them in a responsible manner.
  • Protocol choice: We recommend using SFTP as it is based on SSH and provides robust security features.
  • Password security: Encourage users to keep their passwords confidential and consider changing them periodically.
