A new version of the Picturepark Content Platform will be released.

Version: Picturepark Niesen (11.4) released on 3-Sep-2022

Main changes:

  • Commenting
  • Dynamic Relationships
  • Embed Link Automation
Niesen is 2,362 meters above sea level. Picturepark developer Andreas Wimmer took the shot. License: CC BY SA.

The Niesen, 2362m, is a mountain peak in the Bernese Alps in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland. Because of its shape, it is often called the Swiss Pyramid. Originally, the Niesen was named Yesen, a yellow gentian, and it still flowers on the Niesen to this day.

You can reach the summit using the Niesenbahn funicular, which was completed in 1910, but more interestingly, you may want to use the longest stairway in the world, alongside the funicular, with 11674 steps, which is only open to the public once a year.

Release details

These are the final release notes.

Picturepark "Niesen" features commenting, dynamic relationships based on metadata, and the creation of embeds via business rule automation. See further details below.

Commenting

Users can comment on content and notify other users, for example, for reviewing metadata before it is published or when they have questions about the content.

Product with comment thread between Sandy & Brian on increasing variety of products and removing deprecated products.

Users now have the ability to comment on (master) content and notify others, for example, to review metadata or the content before it becomes available, or to request access to the original content item if no such permission was granted. The new commenting feature includes mentioning other users, who then get notified in Picturepark directly and via e-mail.

Important: For cross-department enterprise-wide collaboration, we recommend using Picturepark integrated into the collaborative tools of your choice, such as Slack, MS Teams, or Google Chat.

Common use cases:

  • I want to add a comment to an asset, like a sticky note, mentioning that "Ramon doesn't want me to use this image for advertising."
  • I want to add a comment to an asset mentioning a Picturepark user to inform her that the asset is outdated. Like @Kati, please remove this from any presentation.
  • Comments can be edited or removed anytime by the owner (the creator of the comment) or your system administrator.
  • I can mention Content Items within the comments using the Content Item URL (from the browser bar) to inform users about better content: @Nicole: pls use ContentItemURI from now on.
  • I can mention list items within the comments using the list item URL (refId): @David: pls use ListItemURI1 and ListItemURI1 on social media.

Remarks:

  • The Picturepark API allows you to create, edit, and remove comments.
  • Only active and reviewed Picturepark users can be mentioned and notified.
  • When mentioning a Picturepark user, these will only be suggested when the commenting user has permission to “Manage users.” However, if the correct email is entered, notifications will be sent nonetheless. This limitation will be addressed in a future release.

Dynamic relationships

New dynamic relationship fields show related content based on predefined search criteria.

Picturepark relationship fields enable you to link related content manually together and curate hand-picked items. With our new dynamic relationship fields, you can now relate content dynamically based on search criteria - always up to date based on metadata.

Language versions with technical product brochures, using document master numbers.

The new field, Dynamic View, will show a small version of the content browser with all Content Items that are found based on the search criteria (filter) defined for the field. This greatly simplifies the management of versions, variations, or related content as you can now simply tag each such content item with a base set of metadata and have it automatically related together - without further manual actions.

Select use cases:

  • Related product content: Show all content related to a product (identified by product code), such as product images, datasheets, manuals, and more.
  • Language versions: Show all translated documents with the same Document Title or print reference/document code.
  • Variations: Show all variations derived from a master content item to keep an overview when the master is updated.
  • And much more: Show all content with the same release number associated with an event (based on the event title) or part of the same campaign.

Additionally, users are prompted to decide if they also wish to download related content items (those via “Dynamic view field” or via pre-existing “Relationship field”) when downloading a content item that has such related items (e.g., a French-speaking user can select and download the French version when viewing the English master document).

Embed link automation

Automatically create embeds for sharing content using flexible Picturepark business rules.

Product with embed link in metadata and in display pattern detail for easy access

Picturepark automation can now create embeds for sharing content based on predefined conditions. This functionality is especially useful for integrations where, e.g., a CMS requires an embed link for a specific content format to be stored directly with every content item, making it easier for the CMS to pick the file and integrate it. These embedded links can feature media optimization information such as focal points, conversion parameters, etc.

Select use cases:

  • Simplify integrations into websites and portals by grabbing the automatically created embed link.
  • Faster Integration into streaming platforms or CDN, automatically picking Picturepark embed links.
  • Easy access to Picturepark content via automatically created embed links for partners or agencies.
  • Efficient marketing campaigning by grabbing embed links for approved key visuals.
  • Faster time to market for sales teams who quickly copy existing embed links for new product content made available to use in emails and messaging with potential clients.
  • Rapid publication of embed links for hero shots for the website and landing pages by website editors.
  • Fast social media distribution by exporting keyword hashtags and target links into content planners.
  • Automated embeds for product content published to dealers for use in dealer portals, landing pages, and email or other communication.
  • Many more…

Media optimisation and conversion restrictions

If you use Picturepark Premium or Enterprise plans, the Media Optimisation features for creating tailored embed links and/or converting media files are fully available. For Starter plans, only embeds based on static or dynamic formats can be used without applying dynamic conversion parameters, for which the Image Optimisation Add-on can be purchased as an option.

The Fastly CDN Connector might be mandated for high-load use cases, and a basic usage quota is already included in the corresponding Plans or Add-ons. Additional restrictions apply for media file conversions - please see the Subscription Plan FAQ for more information.

Further notable changes

Business Rules

  • Title and Description don’t display in view mode if the fields are empty, so editors get a faster overview of the configured business rule parameters.
  • New condition for checkboxes allows checking if a checkbox value is true or false even if it is unchanged, which triggers reminders to editors when they missed checking a checkbox that approves content, license, or gender-sensitive language, i.e. when the task was not done.

Output Formats

The viewForAll setting is now independent of source formats. Before, it was impossible to deliver output formats for vector files if the user had no access to its original.

Authentication

Possibility to login with Safari or mobile and (other browser’s incognito mode) on customers with custom hosts.

Document Rendering

The document rendering has been changed and improved.

Changes to API & SDKs

We will introduce minor API changes only with the upcoming Picturepark Release “Niesen” (v11.4). However, we recommend you review all changes made if you are responsible for integrations:

https://picturepark.com/apichanges

Please verify if the changes will affect your integration and adapt it accordingly if needed. If you use our SDKs or samples like the Content Portal, we recommend updating to the latest version:

Picturepark.SDK.DotNet

Picturepark.SDK.TypeScript

Picturepark.SDK.Samples (including Content Portal)

Suppose you want to test your changes in advance. In that case, we can provide you with a functionally limited clone running on the latest 11.4 preview code base within our stage environment (free provisioning of such a stage system depends on your subscription plan or partner status).
