Software requirements

Note

Ensure all Windows updates are applied before installing Fotoware on the server.

  • The mainstream supported  Microsoft Windows Server versions (currently 2022 and 2025), as well as  Windows Server 2019 for Feature Release 20. Only 64-bit versions are supported. For more information, see Windows Server release information.
  • Internet Information Services (IIS), minimum version 10.0 (this is installed automatically by FotoWeb unless you are doing an offline installation)
  • .NET8 is required for Operations Center versions 8.1.1125 and newer, while .NET6 is needed for versions older than 8.1.1125
  • MongoDB - the database that FotoWeb uses to persistently store most data, such as asset metadata, users, and albums.
    From Feature Release 20 onwards, MongoDB must be installed separately. In releases before Feature Release 20, MongoDB was included in the FotoWeb installer.
    Always keep your MongoDB version up to date to benefit from the latest security patches and improvements.
    For more information, see Upgrading to Feature Release 20 and later.

Optional requirements

  • FFmpeg - for more information, see How to install FFmpeg for FotoWeb, Index Manager, and Color Factory.

Optional dependencies

Microsoft SQL Server—This is optional and used for the now-deprecated reporting module. You can connect to an existing in-house SQL server or download a recent version of SQL Server Express (external link to the Microsoft website). Remember that the Express version has a database size limit of 10 GB. The SQL server can be omitted if reporting is not required.
For more information about connecting to the SQL Server, see Configuring the site database.

Applications installed when running FotoWeb installer

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 Setup
  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 Redistributable Setup
  • Microsoft OLE DB Driver 18.7.4.0 for SQL Server
  • Note: Microsoft OLE DB Driver 19. x.x is incompatible with FotoWeb.
  • IIS URL Rewrite Module 2
  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable (x64) - 14.21.27702
  • Microsoft Edge WebView2RuntimeInstaller
  • Microsoft CORS Module

    For information on setting up a local SMTP relay on the FotoWeb servers, see Configuring FotoWeb to send emails.
